Four reasons to have an engagement shoot

Deciding whether or not to book an engagement shoot can be a tricky decision, but that being said I don’t know a single couple who has ever regretted having one. Here I chat through four reasons why I think an engagement shoot could be an amazing idea for you and your fiancé.

  1. Get to know your photographer better

Getting to know your photographer, and them getting to know you, is so important! Building a relationship and friendship between you and your photographer can make it feel so easy and by the time your wedding comes around, it should feel just like you have another one of your friends there to capture your day. If you haven’t had a chance to meet your photographer in person yet this could be a great opportunity to do that, as well as a chance to see how they work.

2. Feel more comfortable in front of the camera

Pretty much every one of my couples tells me they don’t like being in front of the camera and they are worried about feeling awkward. I get it, I feel exactly the same whenever someone pulls out a camera and starts taking photos of me. That being said, you still want to have some amazing photos on your wedding day of you both just being yourselves. An engagement shoot is a perfect time to test the water and see how easy it really can be and leave that awkwardness behind.

With no one around, just you and the photographer you can really relax and just be yourselves. I typically take my couples for coffee, have a good chat and then head out on a short walk somewhere beautiful or special to them. With no one else around but you and the photographer, you can really start to get used to being yourselves in front of the camera. By the time your wedding comes around, you’ll know exactly what to expect and know that having your photo taken is not as awkward as you first thought.

3. Capture the essence of your relationship

An engagement shoot can be a great opportunity to capture the true essence of your relationship. Do you love going for walks at the beach? Having coffee at cute cafes in the city? Or do you love relaxing Sunday afternoons at home snuggled up on the sofa? You’ll without a doubt get some amazing photos on your wedding day, but it’s so lovely to have some photos of you both wearing your day-to-day clothes doing your normal thing.

4. Have an amazing time with your partner

You just got engaged! Why don’t you mark this incredible moment with some time together just being you, no work, no distraction, just the two of you spending time in a place that’s special to you? An added bonus is that afterwards, you’ll also have some amazing photos to share with your wedding invites or even to use to announce the news to your friends and family!
