Gilmerton House Nigerian & Scottish Wedding
Alice & Toto married in August at the beautiful Gilmerton House in East Lothian. Gilmerton House has quickly become one of my favourite wedding venues near Edinburgh. It’s a stunning house with plenty of rooms to stay in, as well as some beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces for wedding events. Alice & Toto both got ready at the main house in the morning. Toto played snooker with his groomsmen as they got ready before gifting everyone a miniature Johnnie Walker. Toto wore a kilt from MacGregor and MacDuff, whilst his family had amazing custom-made Nigerian outfits to match his tartan. Alice got ready in the main bedroom and had her and the bridesmaids’ hair done by Stacey Deane and makeup by Rae Mathieson.
The forecast for the day had been sunshine all day, but as everyone was seated for the ceremony in the garden, it began to slowly but surely start chucking it down. There was a mad rush as everyone scrambled inside out of the rain, and Alice (who had been on her way down to the ceremony) hid in a broom cupboard! Fortunately, the clouds cleared 15 minutes later, and after some wiping down of the chairs with towels, everyone was ready for the 2nd attempt! The sun shone through the ceremony and there were so many beautiful moments as Toto and Alice exchanged vows, rings and made it official. The ceremony was held by Neil Mckenzie, who is such a lovely guy and set an amazing energy for the ceremony.
After the ceremony, we took some family and couple portraits as the drinks reception kicked off in the garden, catered by the amazing Edinburgh Catering Company. As the afternoon went on, everyone moved into the Marquee for dinner and speeches. After some emotion-filled speeches and delicious food from the Edinburgh Catering Company, Alice & Toto cut the cake, made by Liggy’s Cakes, and everyone made their way to the Laundry House. The laundry house had been amazingly lit by Arkwright & Wills, and Timi Marcel was all set up to DJ for the night. After a chaotic champagne tower (you’ll understand when you see the photos), the party kicked off in the Laundry House! A short while into the DJ set, Alice & Toto both went upstairs to change as they planned to do a Nigerian Trad entrance. The outfits, the colours, dollars flying everywhere and the energy of this entrance was unbelievable. There’s something about Gilmerton, but the dance floors always seem to be epic! I hope you enjoy looking through some of my photos from Alice & Toto’s wedding day:
